The Health Education Systems, Inc (HESI) Admission Assessment (A2) Exam Information
Completion of the A2
Exam with a score of 75 is required for admission to the Associate Degree Nursing program. This score reflects a necessary reading, science, and math knowledge foundation to be successful in the Nursing program.
Applicants are encouraged to obtain the Evolve Reach Admission Assessment Exam Review by HESI. The study guide is available for purchase at the Columbus State bookstore.
A2 exam scores from other schools will not be accepted.
The Nursing program will maintain scores for a period of 4 years.
The exam may be taken for a maximum of 2 times to be considered for admission to the Nursing program. If a minimum score of 75 is not attained on the 2nd attempt, the student should explore other health care career opportunities at Columbus State.
If the student does not pass the exam on the 1st attempt, they must wait 6 months before retesting.
The exam takes approximately 6 hours to complete.
Students will receive their scores immediately after completing the exam.
Cost: $ 45 for 1st time test takers
$ 65 for 2nd time and/or those students who are a no call/no show
* Important Students must call and reschedule their appointment 24 hours in advance if they cannot keep their scheduled test time or they will be considered a no call/no show.
To register for exam:
- Contact the ACT Skills Max & Testing Center at (614) 287-5750 to schedule an appointment. Exams are given at 9:00 am Monday - Saturday only.
- Pay the testing fee in the Cashier's Office - Rhodes Hall, 2nd floor
- On the day of your test, please bring your paid receipt and a picture ID to the ACT Skills Max & Testing Center
Admission Assessment (A2) Content Information:
- Math: 50-item exam. Focuses on math skills needed for health care fields, including basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, ratio and proportion, household measures, general math facts, etc. Time allotment: 50 minutes.
- Reading Comprehension: 47-item exam. Provides reading scenarios in order to measure reading comprehension, identifying the main idea, finding meaning of words in context, passage comprehension, making logical inferences, etc. Time allotment: 60 minutes
- Vocabulary and General Knowledge: 50-item exam. Contains vocabulary terms that are commonly used in both general English speaking settings and in health care fields. Time allotment: 50 minutes.
- Grammar: 50-item exam. Contains basic grammar, including parts of speech, important terms and their uses, commonly occurring grammatical errors, etc. Time allotment: 50 minutes
- Chemistry: 25-item exam. Contains test items that cover matter, chemical equations and reactions, the periodic table, atomic structure, nuclear chemistry, chemical bonding, etc. Time allotment: 25 minutes.
- Anatomy and Physiology (A&P): 25-item exam. Provides coverage of general terminology and anatomical structures and systems. Time allotment: 25 minutes.
- Biology: 25-item exam. Covers biology basics, water, biological molecules, metabolism, cells, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, etc. Time allotment: 25 minutes.
A2 Learning Style/Personality Profile:
- Learning Styles: 14-item assessment of preferred learning style. Time allotment: 15 minutes.
- Personality Style: 15-item assessment of personality related to preferred learning style. Students receive a printout with study tips based on their learning style and personality profile. Time allotment: 15 minutes.
