Financial Aid: Possible changes to State Grant Programs

State funded grants, such as the Ohio Instructional Grant (OIG) and the Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG) have traditionally played a significant part in the financial aid packages of many Columbus State students. The 2008-2009 fiscal year was the final year of the OIG program.

Students who had previously qualified for that grant program were to be included in the OCOG program beginning with the 2009-2010 fiscal year. However, the state biennial budget bill for academic years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 includes a proposal that would make significant changes to OCOG and could affect Columbus State students.

The final state budget, approved by the Ohio General Assembly and Governor Strickland, does not include OCOG funds for community colleges. As a result, CSCC is not able to award OCOG funds for the 2009-2010 academic year.
